This year we can celebrate the following American Heritage Anniversaries;

150 Years Ago - Anniversary of the American Civil War

• January 1861 The South Secedes
• April 12, 1861 The American Civil War begins with the bombardment of Fort Sumter
• April 13, 1861 Fort Sumter surrenders to Southern forces

130 Years Ago - In the Old West

• October 26, 1881 - The famous gunfight at the OK Corral with Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Virgil Earp and Morgan Earp fighting the Clantons and McLaurys
• July 14th, 1861 Billy the Kid is shot and killed by Lincoln County Sheriff Pat Garrett. Billy the Kid, AKA Henry McCarty, Henry Antrim, Kid Antrim and William H Bonney. Some say the KID killed upwards of 20 men in his time, some say far less than that. He is remembered as somewhat of a Robin Hood Outlaw - some accounts saying "every man he killed deserved it".

100 Years Ago in Modern Weaponry

• The Colt Model 1911 pistol was formally adopted by the Army and two years later is adopted by the Marine Corp and the Navy. Still one of the most popular handguns today.
