This Navajo Indian Turquoise Silver Sunface Kachina Bolo Tie is an incredible piece of hand made Native American jewelry art. It was masterfully hand crafted by Navajo Indian jewelry artist Jimmy Emerson (shown above with his wife). Jimmy has worked with us for over twenty years creating his signature high quality Turquoise jewelry. This bolo tie prominently features a large stone of genuine Turquoise. This impressive Turquoise appears in a hand made bolo of Sterling Silver. Plus, this bolo has the traditional southwestern Native American image of the Sunface deity in Sterling Silver. Turquoise and Silver, a beautiful and traditional combination. Truly a work of wearable art. The Turquoise Bolo is 4" long and 2-1/2" wide. Comes with a complimentary 44" long genuine leather six-ply bolo cord. Stamped Sterling. Signed by the Navajo Indian jewelry artist JE (Jimmy Emerson).

Turquoise has been, since about 200 B.C., extensively used by southwestern U.S Native Americans and by many of the Indian tribes in Mexico. The Native American Jewelry or "Indian style" jewelry with turquoise mounted in or with silver is relatively new. Some believe this style of Jewelry was unknown prior to about 1880, when a white trader persuaded a Navajo craftsman to make turquoise and silver jewelry using coin silver. Prior to this time, the Native Americans had made solid turquoise beads, carvings, and inlaid mosaics. Recently, turquoise has found wide acceptance among people of all walks of life and from many different ethnic groups.

Highly detailed Silversmithing with intricate, inlaid Mother of Pearl, Sleeping Beauty Turquoise and Coral to create a covered wagon set in amazing picturesque details. The belt buckle is 4" by 3" with a 1-3/4" keeper on the back, the Bolo Tie measures 2-3/4" on a leather braided 23" length (46" total) cord, with Sterling Silver tips. The buckle and the bolo are signed by the Zuni artist, VM DISHTA and stamped S/S.

The Zuni Indians learned to silversmith from the Navajo in the early 1870's. The Zuni, because they had permanent homes unlike the nomadic Navajo, were able to use many tools that the Navajo could not easily carry with them. With the lapidary wheels they began cutting stones and using the silver to hold their stones in patterns. Today, Zuni silversmiths are known for their lapidary skills. Both channel inlay (using precisely cut stones set on silver to form figures and designs) and cluster and needlepoint (setting small, similarly cut stones in geometric patterns) are traditional Zuni styles. There are many legends about Turquoise; The Pima consider it to bring good fortune and strength and that it helped overcome illness. The Zuni believe that blue turquoise was male and of the sky and green turquoise was female and of the earth. Pueblo Indians thought that its color was stolen from the sky. In Hopi legend the lizard who travels between the above and the below, excretes turquoise and that the stone can hold back floods. The Apache felt that turquoise on a gun or bow made it shoot straight. The Navajo consider it as good fortune to wear and believe it could appease the Wind Spirit.
