Shannon Lawlor was raised in a farming and ranching community near Brandon Manitoba, Canada. It was here, at a very early age, that her appreciation for the equine form began. The family horses provided a lifeline for Shannon that to this day, she has never been without. As far back as Shannon can recall, this passion has gone hand in hand with her desire to interpret the equine form onto canvas.
In 1988 Shannon relocated to Alberta, it wasn’t until 1993 that she began taking educational instruction in oil painting. Resuming instruction under the capable hands of wildlife artist, David Kitler, her media now includes primary acrylics
and graphite. While incorporating her life experiences of horsemanship and painting, Shannon is able to offer to the public a collection of equine art for the discriminating viewer. Each of her pieces are powerful and demanding of attention. They also speak their own truth, as does the equine itself. Shannon feels she is simply the vessel that paints that truth.
Ultimately, Shannon's artistic inspiration is the result of the beauty, respect and understanding of the equine itself, along with the fine form of horsemanship she has come to know. Equally, travels to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and other artistic venues throughout the U.S. and Canada, have given her the opportunity to study and admire the work of fellow artists, which also continue to contribute to her inspiration.Shannon Lawlor Horse Art
