Gatling Guns & Accessories

My Dear Friend.

It may be interesting to you to know how I came to invent the gun which bears my name; I will tell you: In 1861, during the opening events of the war, (residing at that time in Indianapolis, md.,) I witnessed almost daily the departure of troops to the front and the return of the wounded, sick, and dead. The most of the latter lost their lives, not in battle, but by sickness and exposure incident to the service. It occurred to me if I could invent a machine--a gun-- which could by its rapidity of fire, enable one man to do as much battle duty as a hundred, that it would, to a great extent, supersede the necessity of large armies, and consequently, exposure to battle and disease be greatly diminished. I thought over the subject and finally this idea took practical form in the invention of the Gatling Gun.

Yours truly,
R.J. Gatling

THE HISTORY OF THE GATLING GUN
Over one hundred and forty years ago, Dr. Richard Jordan Gatling developed an improved battery gun for the purpose of making war so terrible that peace could only be brought with little loss of life.

The original model 1862 battery gun (Gatling Gun) used the Standard military issue Springfield rifle paper 58-caliber bullet that was placed in a special chamber with a percussion cap at the back. These individual chambers were than loaded into the hopper on top of the battery gun (Gatling Gun) and fed by gravity into a rotating wheel that was synchronized with a series of rotating barrels.

Since that time, the name Gatling gun (also known as battery gun) has been synonymous with the ultimate in firepower.

The same basic technology that made the Gatling gun’s place in history is still in use today. The Vulcan canons found on most state-of-the-art jet fighters are functionally nothing more than a model 1883 Gatling gun with an electronic motor and beltless feed in 20mm rather than 45-70.

In the 56-year history of the original Gatling Gun Company, there were 20 countries that bought various models manufactured in 25 different calibers. Countless lives and whole countries around the world were protected and defended by this first, successful, working battery gun (Gatling Gun).

Own your own today with our historically accurate reproduction in 50 Caliber or 58 Caliber. Both are live firing models and can also be converted to shoot blanks. All Gatlings are shipped directly from the makers after a complete quality check and test fired to guarantee perfect working condition. Full service parts and repair available by contacting us. *Prices are subject to change without notice.
