This Turquoise Jewelry Silver Concho Belt is an impressive piece of hand made American Indian jewelry. This fantastic concho belt was masterfully made out of Sterling Silver. It features traditional cluster designs made from hand cut cabochons of genuine Turquoise. Turquoise jewelry is highly fashionable for its natural colors. This concho belt features a buckle, six conchos, and seven butterflies of Sterling Silver. The sky blue color of the Turquoise combines nicely with the white shine of Sterling Silver. The buckle and each of the six conchos are 3" in diameter. The butterflies are 1-1/4" by 3". Faux leather belt cut to fit. Stamped Sterling. Signed by the Navajo Indian artist LMB. Concho belts are one of the most striking articles of Indian Jewelry. The medallions or plates of silver (conchos) vary in number according to size. The older type conchos had holes in the center, separated by a bar, through which was passed the strap forming the belt. The first belts were made only of concho's, with leather thongs used for fastening. Later a silver harness buckle was used, then slides of soft copper were used to attach and slide the concho's on belts and finally elaborate buckles replaced the leather thongs and simple buckles. The use of turquoise and other adornment on concho's date from the 1920's.
