Remington 1858 Army Steel Frame with Blued Barrel 44 Cal. 8" The 1858 Army Remington Revolver was the only black powder firearm to offer a challenge to the dominant Model revolvers. With a long 8" barrel, it was considered by many to be every bit the gun a Model was, and then some. It is said that soldiers of the Civil War would trade a handful of Models for one Remington Army revolver. After the war, the Remington outsold the Models as a surplus weapon because the soldiers had seen how the two guns stood up side by side to combat use. The 1858 Remington Revolver has a strong solid frame that stands up to the abuse better than the open-top design of the Model. A note from William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody on Exhibit at the NRA National Firearms Museum reads, "This old Remington Revolver I carried and used for many years in Indian Wars and buffalo killing. And it never failed me."
